Israel to start negotiations on establishing a free trade area between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and Israel, the Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at the press conference after his meeting with Prime Minister Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.

The counterparts have substantially discussed on how to promote economic cooperation between the two countries. “One of the ways to promote economic cooperation is to establish a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union and Israel. A week ago, in Astana, I with my colleagues have discussed this initiative. I suppose we can start substantive negotiations in this domain already this year,” Russian President said.

According to Mr Putin one of the most interesting areas for cooperation between Russia and Israel is agriculture. “Israeli manufacturers can significantly increase their presence on the Russian market,” he said. What’s more, he also named energy as a sector for future cooperation.

In its turn, Mr Netanyahu stated that at the meeting with Russian President the two countries signed several agreements on social security, customs management and cooperation in the energy sector.

From 6 to 8 June, Mr Netanyahu is in an official visit to Moscow. This is his third visit to the country since the autumn 2015.
