The European Commission will issue a negative verdict on Italy’s 2019 budget and the public finances in its country report on Wednesday.

Government measures will not boost growth, the report will say.

Investments are halted, the ‘quota 100’ pension reform will not boost growth and there will only be a 0.15% consumer spending rise due to the new basic income, the sources said.

Instead of boosting growth, the budget may raise Italy’s public debt, already the second biggest in the eurozone after Greece’s, at over 130% of GDP, the report will say.
