In 2019, for the first time since 17 years, Germany will see its public debt fall to 58.25% of GDP, and therefore below the threshold of the Maastricht criterion, which provides for a limit of 60%. This was reported by Angela Merkel’s spokeswoman, Steffen Seibert, in Berlin, at a press conference, announcing that the government has launched the draft of the 2019 budget today in a special cabinet session. Also in 2019 there will not be new debts.
