Russian federal tourism agency Rosturism has proposed Russian Foreign Ministry to reduce entry visa fee for Russian to $ 20-30.

“A single-entry visa costs $ 100. That is too expensive. As a consequence, it reduce drastically the number of foreign tourists wishing to travel to our country [Russia – ed.]. We propose to put the price down to other countries average, which is about 20-30 dollars per visa,” the head of Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism Oleg Safonov said.

According to her, fee reduction might stimulate an increase in number of tourists of over 40%.

What is more, she also notes that introduction of electronic visas could have a positive effect on the number of tourists in the country. “We live in the digital age. I’m not saying to cancel visa system, but to facilitate the procedures for obtaining them. What I mean is to introduce electronic format for visa,” Safonov said.
