Vote now or transition government? The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will now have to choose between these alternatives. After almost two months of tactical games, Italian politics reaches a first terminus. At the expense of it is, for now, the young leader of the 5 Star Movement whose moves – starting from the veto against Silvio Berlusconi – proved to be naive. The former premier Matteo Renzi (Democratic Party) has said “no” to the policy of the 2 ovens theorized by the leader 5 Stelle Di Maio who has now entered the explicit viewfinder also of his founding father Beppe Grillo. The surrender becomes even more dramatic because the one who wanted to lead the government (Di Maio) hand himself over, hands and feet, to “his” former ally and principal competitor: “I tell Salvini: let’s go and ask to vote, let’s choose to the citizens between revolution and restoration “. The choice between the two options is no longer in the hands of Di Maio but in those of Salvini.
The leader of the league can present himself at the Quirinale with the double option: a government with Forza Italia or an early vote. The word to the referee Mattarella. Meanwhile Di Maio licks his wounds and Salvini mustache. They were the two winners. Only one remains.
