Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev: “the trade turnover between Russia and China could reach $200 billion by 2020”
According to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the trade turnover between Russia and China could reach USD200bln by 2020, should the two countries continue to work together as was done in previous years.
“The situation in the world economy and in our national economies is changing. Just 10 years ago, maybe a little less, we were setting an objective of reaching a threshold of a USD100bln trade turnover. We basically reached that threshold by 2014,” Mr Medvedev said in an interview with the China Central Television.
He also recalled that during the global economic crisis of 2008-2009, trade between Russia and China decreased by a third, but later recovered, reaching a peak level in 2014.
“This year, overall, the numbers have been improving. […] I am certain that if we continue along this path, we will be capable of reaching a level of USD200bln by 2020,” the Russian prime minister predicted.
November 7, in St. Petersburg, a 21th regular meeting of the Russian and Chinese heads of government will be held, during which Dmitry Medvedev and Li Keqiang will have detailed discussions of the key issues of Russian-Chinese trade, economic, investment, energy, humanitarian, interregional and cross-border cooperation.
