Medvedev promises not to reduce agricultural subsidies

Russian government plans to keep subsidize agricultural sector at the current level despite tight budget, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at the opening ceremony of the 18th Russian Agricultural Exhibition “Golden Autumn – 2016”.

“The government will do all possible to provide adequate resources. Despite a tense budgetary situation, next year, we expect to keep financing agriculture at the same rate as this year,” Mr Medvedev said.

Around 112 mln tonnes of grain have been already harvested in Russia. According to Prime Minister it is expected to arrive to a record 115 mln tonnes this year.

“As for October 4, around 112 mln tonnes of grain have been already harvested; while it is planned to harvest a total of 115 mln tonnes by the end of this season, which is a 25-year record and an absolute record in the history of Russia’s agriculture,” Mr Medvedev said.

Prime Minister also said that the government is currently working on possibility to introduce subsidies for dairy industry.
