The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker begins a long visit to the Western Balkans tomorrow together with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn. The troika is expected tomorrow in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, from where it will then stop in Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria.

The Western Balkans have long been at the center of a strong diatribe between Russia, the US and Europe, accusing each other of ingesting the internal affairs of these countries and pushing them back into their spheres of influence. Little Montenegro is an integral and warm part of this dispute, starting with the resounding arrest on the day of the parliamentary elections (October 2016) of a group of Serbs and Montenegrins accused of hatching a coup and wanting to assassinate the strong man of the country, Milo Djukanovic . All this would have happened to prevent the entry of Montenegro into NATO (14 people are currently on trial, including two Russian citizens who have managed to leave the country).

In this week, an attacker threw a hand grenade at t the U.S. Embassy in Montenegro. and then killed hims elf with another explosive device.
