The Moscow Metro will work around the clock on New Year’s Eve, according to the city’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
The official also said that the underground will be working around the clock on the City Day and 24/7 during 2018 FIFA World Cup.
“Considering large repairs which have been carried out in the underground, the replacement of rails, the improvement of the power systems’ operation, the air conditioning, we have got an opportunity to increase the metropolitan’s working hours and make it around the clock on important days. We have decided to have the underground work 24 hours a day on New Year and on the City Day in 2017, and during the World Cup in 2018,” the mayor said.
At the New Year nights public transport in general work around the clock, however not the underground, as it can not work for long time and needs to receive constant maintenance. One-time occasion like New Year is possible, but with limitations. As Deputy Mayor explained, the interval between trains on these special days between 12:30 am and 5:30 am will be 15 minutes.
