The BRICS summit 2016 will be held in Goa, Foreign Minister of India Sushman Swaraj said on Tuesday.

The country assumed chairmanship of the BRICS alliance of five major emerging countries after Russia – last summit was held in the Russian city of Ufa on July 9-10, 2015.

According to Mr Swaraj, the BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) will take place in October 15-16 and there will be “over 50 sectoral meetings organized at the ministerial, official, technical, and track II levels”.

BRICS is a grouping of five major emerging national economies founded in June 2006 during the International Economic Forum of St. Petersburg. The association was originally known as BRIC before the inclusion of South Africa in 2011.
