Members of the European Parliament will not observe the progress of the presidential elections. In the official press release of the European Parliament it is stated that no official invitation has been sent: therefore any initiative of any MEP will be exclusively personal. The elections in Russia are scheduled within a week, March 18th. The European Parliament will not observe the electoral process and will not comment on the outcome of the vote. No member of the European Parliament has in fact received the official mandate to become an observer on behalf of the European Parliament.

The European Parliament also announced that it would like to discuss the report on relations between the EU and Azerbaijan at its next plenary session; on that occasion it is possible that many Members ask for the floor to comment on the Russian vote.
