Rome, the Eternal city, one of the places you have to visit at least once in your life. It is proclaimed to be the most important tourist destinations of Italy and the world, isn’t it? Let’s see whether Rome’s fame have worked as a generator of tourist flow in 2016.
2016 was rather scarce on growth. It showed +2% over the previous year, which is hardly a half of tourist inflows increase of 2015, with up 4.4% over 2014. According to the head of Italian hotel association, Federalberghi, Giuseppe Roscioli, 2016 was a tumultuous year in Italy, with sudden earthquakes and political turmoil, but also with the perceived threat of a terrors attack. That what largely effected the image of the Capital, according to Mr Roscioli.
Also, all the agiotage that was created in the country over the Holy Year, known as Jubilee, kick started in Dec., were promising a huge flow of pilgrims and tourists to the Capital. However, for now, the results did not really meet the expectations, said the head of the hotel association: what would it be if there was no Jubilee? Could it be worse?
According to Mr Roscioli it could. And, there are many political and organizational situation of the capital to be sort out for the best of the city image, as well as a need to make use of promotion of international tourism.
