Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi on Thursday blasted a big protest by tourist-coach operators against a city order banning them from accessing the centre of the capital as of next year.

Coach drivers parked their buses in the central Piazza Venezia square, halting traffic and causing massive disruption.

“It is unacceptable that Rome is kept in a trap by the tourist buses,” Raggi told a delegation of tourist-coach operators.

“The centre must be freed immediately. Stop the protest because you are paralyzing the city.
