Russia and China to launch talks on FTZ

The first round of talks on free trade zone (FTZ) between Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and China to be held in Moscow in mid-October, reports TASS with reference to an unnamed source close to the office of the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Tigran Sargsyan

Earlier, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said that Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Chinese Premier Li Kequiang would meet in St. Petersburg on November 7-8. According to him the parties were supposed to talk, in particular, on an agreement to establish a bigger Eurasian economic partnership by bring together EEU states, India, China, Pakistan as well as other countries that will wish to join.

A bilateral agreement between Russia and China or an agreement between the EEU and China, envisaging the setting up of a free trade zone, could be the first stage of such an agreement. According Mr Shuvalov this agreement can be signed within two years.
