Russia, Auchan builds one of the biggest distribution centers in Europe

Its total area will be of 138 thousand square meters; while investments will total 6 bln roubles
Auchan Retail Russia, owned by French Auchan Holding, will invest some six billion roubles in construction of a new distribution center in the Domodedovo district of the Moscow region, reports the company’s press service.
The new site will cover a total area of 138 thousand square meters. It will be developed by the Radius Group and will become not only the largest facility of its kind in Europe but also one of the most energy efficient and environmental friendly buildings in Russia.
The facility has a planned capacity to handle loading and unloading of more than 230 trailers simultaneously, and will service more than 50 Auchan stores in the region.
Its CEO for hypermarkets Oleg Alkhamov said that “during the first stage we plan to build infrastructure for the logistic center that will allow us to expand it in the future,” adding that Russia has always been strategic market for the company. In fact, according to the Chairman of Auchan Holding’s Board of Directors Wilhelm Hubner Auchan Retail Russia plans to increase its investment in Russia up to 30 bln rouble in 2017.
For the period of 2016, the retailer’s investments will total 23 billion roubles. Until the end of the year, the company is going to open in Russia some 30 new stores.
