In 2016, Russia will harvest a record amount of grain and leguminous corps over the past 38 years. According to Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachev, the amount will reach over 117 mln tons.

“In 2016, Russia will harvest 117 mln tons of grain. This is the best result in the past 38 years (1978 — 127 million tons),” Tkachev said.

Grain exports will reach 35 million tons, which will secure leading position of Russia in wheat exporting well ahead of the EU and the United States, according to the ministry.

Increased productivity from 17 to 27 quintals per hectare (+60%) made it possible to reach such a result, Mr Tkachev said.

At the same time, sown area decreased by 60% (from 74 to 47 million hectares), according to the ministry.

The long-term strategy for the development of Russian grain industry until 2030 provides for increase of grain production to 130 million tons per year
