Russian authorities continue desperate attempts to revive domestic aircraft industry. Last week, the Ministry of Transport said a new airline company would be created to operate SSJ100 in domestic flights, reports RIA Novosti citing the head of Ministry Maxim Sokolov.

A new company might be created already in 2017, he said. It is assumed that the airline will operate domestic routes in south Russia. The project name is Azimut, the agency states.

Mr Sokolov said the State would not participate in the capital of the new carrier. However, the implementation of the second phase of the project which involves the purchase and operation of SSJ100 highly relies on state support. The Ministry of Industry together with GTLK (State Transport Leasing Company) are to implement this phase.
