For the first time since 2006, the Central Bank of Russia has decided to issue new banknotes. By the end of 2017, it will issue into circulation banknotes with denominations 200 and 2 thousand rubles. It is emphasized that this issuance won’t affect the amount of cash in the circulation.

The last time the regulator issued new banknotes was back in 2006. Then, there were introduced banknotes with 5 thousand ruble denomination.

It is expected that the new banknotes of 200 and 2 thousand rubles will simplify transactions and save time. The head of the Central Bank explained that this innovation is economically justified with inflation rate at 4-6%. By the end of 2017, the Central Bank expects to reduce annual inflation to 4%

The drawing on the banknotes, which traditionally depicts symbols of the Russian regions, will be decided by popular vote that is scheduled for summer 2016.
