The Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation has been opened at the Federico Fellini International airport of Rimini (Emilia-Romagna, Italy), reports Russian Federal Tourism Agency (Rossturizm).
The office will provide full assistance to Russian citizens in Rimini. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the consulate, the deputy head of the Federal Tourism Agency Roman Skoruy has emphasized that there are positive prospects for tourist exchange between Russia and Italy, in particular, what concerns Emilia-Romagna.
“Italy has always been a popular holiday destination for Russian tourists. I am sure that also Russia could become an interesting place for Italian tourists. Rosturizm hopes for close and comprehensive cooperation with the authorities and tour operators of the largest Italian region Emilia-Romagna. That will defiantly contribute in increase in tourist traffic between the two countries,» Mr Skoruy said.
According to Russian Federal Tourism Agency, in 2016, it is expected that up to 70% of passenger traffic of the airport of Rimini will consist of Russian tourists, while the air hub expects to serve overall over 200 thousand passengers.
In 2015, the number of tourist trips to Italy decreased by 35.6% compared with 2014 amounting to 481,4 thousand. At the same time the number of tourists from Italy to Russia grew by some 2% to 109,4 thousand trips.
