“It is time to restore EU-EEU dialogue, we have to organize a joint conference“, said Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tatiana Valovaya at the Fifth Eurasian Economic Forum in Verona.
“The relationship between Eurasia and Europe is in stagnation, however, we compensate it by working with our partners in the Asia-Pacific region. And that’s is very important for us. Though, the dialogue with Europe rests crucial for us as well. Here, its progress doesn’t anymore depend on us as we have a mandate to dialogue with the European Commission but our European partners keep silence”, the Minister said.
Speaking about trade statistics, she payed a particular attention to the fact that “for the first time in all times our share of imports from Europe caught up with that from the Asia-Pacific region. As we say in Russia, a holy place is never empty, meaning that what European businessmen lost, Asia-Pacific ones gained. And if we do want to reverse this situation we have to do it now as in one-two years that could become irreversible. Therefore, a joint EU-EEU conference is extremely important and highly needed – we need to build a Eurasian Partnership and we have to start with an economic cooperation.”
